Synopsis- SPOILER ALERT!!!

Stargirl joins Superman, Wonder Woman and Steel to celebrate Aquaman's coronation in Atlantis. She embarrasses herself at the dinner table in a conversation with him. Suddenly a seaquake hits, which saves her form further embarrassment. Aquaman realizes that the seaquake is the doing of Arionite cultists- those who wish to bring Atlantis back to the olden days. He also sees through his maps that they are targeting a stonehenge-like construct. This construct is actually the prison of Umbra, who the Arionites brought forth to attack Atlantis. Umbra quickly dispenses of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Steel. Stargirl tells Aquaman to get help while she absorbs Umbra's energy through her belt. This, of course, works, and Aquaman's creatures help to move Umbra back into his prison.

Notes on Atlanteans-

-          Atlanteans are heavy, probably due to pressure.

-          They coat their buildings with Phosphorescent Algae to light the city.

-          No one rides, eats, or bothers the fish (except presumably the ones used in their army.)

-          - Announcements are made by clapping and making a large wave.

-          Aquaman has a problem with Arionite cultists who want to return Atlantis to its old ways even by violent means.

Continuity Peg-

Continuity References-

Stargirl mentions that Stripes’ suit was damaged by Vandal Savage in an off-screen, off-page battle.

Despite being in the same room in ‘Initiation’, Aquaman and Stargirl haven’t met.

Superman mentions that the Metal Men have once defeated Umbra and imprisoned him. They told Aquaman of the prison’s location.

Continuity Go Bye Bye

Fashion Sense

The Atlanteans al have short hair and seem to have acquired new generic jumpsuits. Not something to complain about as its been years since we’d last seen them.

Steel’s suit can withstand water.

Review

Seems to be more of an ‘Adventures in the DCU’ story arc than a JLU one, but it does try to tie in with the rest of the JLU albeit while raising many questions. A lot of people find the sudden inclusion of the Justice Society very uncomfortable, but it isn’t all too far-fetched when you think about it. I’d rave once again about Barberi’s art but then again when wasn’t he brilliant?
Notable for

- featuring a girl meets King tale.

- reworking Atlantis' designs.

- featuring an underwater Stonehenge.
