Synopsis- SPOILER ALERT!!!

Deadman possesses Wonder Woman's body to enlist the league's help in contacting their magical members- the Trenchcoat Brigade. This is because the Three Demons have taken over Limbo and are messing up the Balance and the eternal destiny of the souls there. The league and Deadman arrive at the scene but are taken down one by one, with Etrigan turning on the league and knocking Zauriel out.  With all the league members present in magical bonds and Zatanna in the grip of one demon, they reveal their plans- to take Zatanna's magic powers of reversed-speech spells. Having gained full confidence in the demons' sight Etrigan volunteers to rip it from her throat and instead turns on the demon holding Zatanna and frees her. Zatanna loosens the bonds that hold the heroes and they win the battle.

Continuity Peg-

Continuity References-

Deadman appears here before his appearance in the league TV show. However his description here seem to support that of the show. The Phantom Stranger notes that his duties often do not allow him to take part in missions, which explains his absences. The Three Demons follow closely the designs established in 'The Balance'.

Continuity Go Bye Bye

Not a major continuity issue but it seems that Etrigan's grand plan is to let darkness reign. He never once acted this way in any of his DCAU appearances. Of course this could also be explained by the fact that he IS contrasting with Zauriel.

Barberi's Zatanna and Deadman are slightly different from the JLU models. We see Zauriel in white armor and not black as was his previous appearance.

Review

Complimenting Barberi's art style is a wonderful treatment to an otherwise simplistic script. Though we do see Zatanna again slightly different from the original model as she was in JLU # 1. The Trenchcoat Brigade, however underplayed, seem to be easily differentiated from one another and remain in character. It is interesting to see Zauriel and Etrigan tangle with each other.

Notable for

- the first appearance of Deadman, even before the episode 'Dead Reckoning'.

- the first appearance of Doctor Occult.

- the second comic appearances of Zauriel and the Phantom Stranger.
